Lots of algorithm references that I KNOW will interest you (promise)
A glimpse into the lives of younger Gen Z with the TikTok Rizz Party - there is so much lore for this ‘trend’ to only been around for a week. Definitely worth checking it out, i suspect we’ll see an article or 10 on this in a week. Island Entertainment seem to get a wild amount of views per video which is a bit scary when you think of the average age of the people in the video.
This video has over 255million views and people are confused why - unfortunately the creator is in Australia so won’t benefit from the TikTok creator fund :(
Boy Room is an up and coming TikTok account/series where comedian, Rachel Coster, goes into boys’ rooms and offers funny commentary (thanks for the ref Val)
The Glycine discourse and memes that is very IYKYK vibes (thanks for the ref Duncan)
Gentrified Ice Cream shop memes are popping off (thanks Chloe!)- they feel similar to these Very specific Sydney memes
Lots of corporate core references (thanks Dion). Which reminds me of the new Marc Jacobs and corporate vibes
These references are a bit broader and more discourse that’s been happening the past week:
Articles
IKEA and Dazed have created a Zine that shines a spotlight on different, radical types of living - with a specific lens on young people. The Zine also highlights different creatives and other points of inspo.
Audiences nowadays aren’t defined by genre, and have the flexibility to adapt to any genre they please. However other forms of entertainment haven’t kept up and are lagging behind. It’s a quick read, but a good read purely for this exact line - “Entertainment marketing often banks on a singular message for a monolithic audience” (which isn’t good)
Extra articles that are worth reading!
Substack offers a renaissance - ew substack, but creators are finding a new hub for community and like-minded fashion fans, fueled, in part, by an active comments section that harkens back to the early days of blogs.
Skincare Brands: Don’t Buy Our Stuff - Gen Alpha is freaking out skincare brands, as they’re buying products that shouldn’t be used on anything other than adult skin. Brands are having to change their marketing a bit, and there could possibly be investigations in the marketing for kids and tweens that could change the industry completely.
EXPERIENTIALISM (thanks Marty)
Are ‘fake ads’ helping or hindering the advertising industry? (thanks for the link Duncs)
